position: Student
Name: Owen Chandler
Nicknames: Pale, Snowy, Ghost, ivory boy, ect
Codename: Murphy
Age: 15
Gender: male
Appearance: At first glance many people would mistake Owen for an albino, it’s not until a person really looks, or catches him in strong light that they realise his skin is porcelain rather than colourless and his eyes are a pale blue grey that don’t give the ruby effect of true a albino. He is forced to admit to white hair though, there’s no way it can be called platinum blonde or even silver.
Owen is on the tall side, in fact he’s currently towering at 6’2’’ but it’s doubtable that he’ll grow more than another 2-3 inches as he hit his major growth so early compared to his peers. At the moment he looks like a pole since he hasn’t really put on any weight to go with his new height. His limbs are long and surprisingly graceful in movement though they give him a gangling look. His hands and feet are also long with surprisingly long digits attached.
His face is a delicate high cheekboned triangle with a straight nose and turned up corners to his mouth and eyes, his face appears oddly genderless making him rather hard to read to those who don’t know him. When he’s angry Owens eyes and his voice go as cold as smoking ice. He has grown his hair down to the small of his back, it is very straight and very fine. Owen doesn’t have any facial hair; he’s one of those types who won’t need to shave until he’s about 18.
He wears jeans and plain t-shirts in bright colours and has a blob of natural copper tied on a leather thong (that’s the string kind, not the underwear) around his neck.
Personality: Owen is very cool and very controlled, it’s not often his emotions get the better of him. He isn’t cold to other people, in fact with his odd slang language and loose grip on English grammar Owen can charm a lot of people with his seeming simpleness. However Owen is anything but simple, he learns very quickly and has an excellent memory for words.
Owen’s worst fault is his shyness, he’s okay with one or two people but large crowds and public speaking, especially public speaking, make him nervous if he has to speak in front of a crowd he addresses the floor and says ‘Um’ a great deal. His second worst fault is over analysing everything.
History: Owen grew up in a large town in England that made a lot of money from tourisum, although this didn’t have a great deal to do with him. His mother was fairly young and already had two children by the time Owen was born. Owen’s mother had a couple of rough boyfriends while he was young, which resulted in him and his brother and sister being taken into care when Owen was four.
When her children were young their mother made sporadic visits, sometimes every week for a month or so then half a year or more without word of her. In the first few months Owen and his siblings would wait by the window of the Children’s Home every Saturday and Sunday from just after breakfast until dinner time, waiting for their mother to come. Owen and his brother would always beg their mother to take them back home at such times but their sister, who was nine when they were taken into care, would only stand back with a curl to her lips and ask if their mother’s man was gone yet.
After two years had past all three siblings were fostered by an older couple who took in quite a few younger children. Previously they’d had trouble finding placements because there were three of them and all three looked odd in an unhealthy way despite never suffering from anything more than normal childhood sniffles and illness.
In the time they spent with Esme and Kenneth Owen and his siblings, who are call Ian and Layla if you want to know, calmed down a bit about their mother, the boys looked for her less and their sister was a little less resentful. They got on with the other children fostered there and attended the local primary school.
Esme and Kenneth always preached tolerance, for religion, race, class, sexuality, and other issues considered controversial. However they had no tolerance for rule breaking, though the rules were hardly onerous to obey. Owen took tolerance to his heart, knowing that the ways of the people who took him in were good ways.
Owen grew older, and much taller, and odder. As he approached the exam age Owen became almost obsessed with luck and how it was always turned against him. Most people thought Owen was only unlucky because he thought about luck so much. That turned out not to be quite true, as it was later explained, to various people, by Xavier and co. Owen had luck manipulating mutant powers. He was whisked off to the USA for a quick course in controlling his power, before heading back to England to attend Staghorn school for the Gifted.
Owen is thrilled to be able to shut off his power, especially since the first time he grappled control of it for a few short minutes on the first day Xavier spoke with him he found his lump of copper, this has become a sort of good luck charm for him, as has his foundling puppy Achoo, who is freshly imported from the US.
Powers: Owen unconsciously manipulates fortune for a bad outcome, generating Murphy’s Law in his general area. His power has the potential to cause good luck as well as ill and in the future he may even be able to direct it at a single target.
Power related weaknesses: his power is on/off and affects him as well as others; normally it activates whenever he’s stressed or upset making things worse.
Fighting style: Owen tends to keep out of fights so he hasn’t really developed a fighting style. He is unsually quick though.
Pets (if any):
Species: dog
Name: Achoo
Appearance: An apricot coated mongrel with a pink nose, half pricked ears and mismatched eyes. Achoo stands about 1’ 5’’ and clearly has some poodle in her as her coat is formed of woolly curls.
Personality: Achoo is bright and very good at finding a person who likes dogs. She is a natural tracker and was named for a habit of sneezing every time she catches a new scent. Achoo is afraid of cats and has been since she was clawed on the nose.
